Local authorities have reported 76 cases of the coronavirus in New York, including 10 people currently in hospital, the governor said.

New York has ordered “hundreds” of tests for the coronavirus and plans to request many more, Cuomo told reporters.

“I would test as many people as possible, because we have to know,” he said. New York had reported 44 cases of the coronavirus as of Friday.

Separately, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has asked teams to start making contingency plans if they have to play games behind closed doors, due to the spread of the coronavirus. In a memo released by CNN, the league advised teams to identify “the actions needed if it becomes imperative to play with only essential personnel present.”

More than 300 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the United States, 17 of which have lost their lives, while more than 100,000 cases have been reported worldwide.
