Political power plays with human lives
People who are loaded onto buses at the border are said to have been routinely sent to New York by Republican politicians. They are also said to have paid for transportation from the Texas and Arizona borders to the northeastern part of the country. This is suspected to be an attempt to put pressure on US President Biden and his government in order to bring about a change in migration policy.
A few weeks ago a state of emergency was declared in the US capital Washington because organized buses go not only to New York, but also to Washington and Chicago.
Under US law, the approximately 17,000 migrants in New York cannot work. However, the mayor stressed that these people are welcome in his city: “New Yorkers have always stood up for our immigrant brothers and sisters.” New Yorkers’ compassion knows no bounds, says Adams. They are not the means.
