New York COVID-19 measures. Less stringent measures despite increase

  • New York could relax measures despite increasing COVID-19 cases
  • Governor Andrew Cuomo said parents and students must say regarding school closings
  • All this in the face of a worrying increase in coronavirus cases

New York could relax measures despite an increase in COVID-19 cases. Governor Andrew Cuomo, could relax the rules that were imposed in the Big Apple.

The governor referred to a possible school closure in the state: “School closings have side effects that people don’t even consider,” Cuomo said.

The above, in a press conference in which he pointed to the fact that it makes it very difficult for parents to go to work and creates problems in the distribution of food for the most unfortunate children, who depend on meals from educational centers.

During the summer, facing a new course, the authorities of the city of New York established that the centers would close if the average weekly infection rate in the area exceeded 3%, although in the state area the governor placed that number in 5%.

Faced with the possibility that New York City exceed 3% in the next few days, Andrew Cuomo pointed out that the parents of the students as well as the teachers of the schools should be able to decide.

The center’s own infection rate should also be taken into account, Cuomo said.

“If the school itself has a much lower rate, the school is not part of the problem,” said the governor. “It could be argued that keeping children in school is part of the solution,” he added.
