New York-Covid-19 | Maximum limit of 25 people in places of worship; dissatisfied, the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn challenges the Supreme Court on this state of affairs


Brooklyn, Thursday, November 12, 2020 ((rezonodwes.com)) – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn on Thursday asked the United States Supreme Court to block Covid-19 restrictions on places of worship in New York, according to CNBC.

This request follows an executive order signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on October 6 that limits church attendance in orange zones to a maximum capacity of 25 people and in red zones to 10.

The Roman Catholic Diocese, which operates in Brooklyn and Queens, explained in a document that Governor Cuomo’s order targeted places of worship in direct violation of the First Amendment’s free exercise clause. The religious added: ” In orange zones, even the vast majority of non-essential businesses, including department stores, can remain open unrestricted – but churches cannot« .
