(CNN) A New York state court formally ordered former US President Donald Trump to pay $454 million (approximately 68 billion yen), including interest, on the 23rd in a civil lawsuit over the inflated value of his assets. .
The judgment, signed by Judge Arthur Engoron, was entered into the court’s docket on the same day. A week earlier, a judge had found Trump, his eldest son Donald Jr., and his younger son Eric liable for fraud in a civil suit brought by New York Attorney General James.
The 30-day appeal period begins from the time Trump and others are served with the judgment. Mr. Trump must raise cash or post collateral to cover the $355 million he is ordered to pay, plus about $100 million in interest.
The two sons were each ordered to pay back $4 million in ill-gotten gains from the fraud. The judge also barred Trump and his son from serving as directors of New York companies for the next few years.
On the 23rd, prior to the latest order, James posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Friday’s emotions. No one is above the law.”
Trump plans to appeal.
Trump initially asked for a 30-day delay in sentencing. They reasoned that the delay would not prejudice the New York State Attorney General’s Office and would allow for an orderly process given the “seriousness” of the decision. The judge rejected the request, saying Trump had not explained or justified why it should be delayed.
