This technique called “chokehold” in English has been banned in the New York Police Department since 1993.

“After a quick Home Office investigation, a police officer implicated in a disturbing incident in Queens has been suspended without pay,” New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said in a tweet on Sunday.

“While a full investigation is still ongoing, there is no doubt in my mind that this immediate action is needed,” he added.

Video posted online showed numerous police officers holding the man on his stomach during his arrest.

One of the police officers appeared to have his arm wrapped around the man’s neck according to the images that circulated a lot.

The man was hospitalized on Sunday evening, NBC New reported, but his life is no longer in danger.
