New York commits school staff to corona vaccination policy

– New York City Mayor de Blasio announces that from now on all people who are employed in schools must be vaccinated. The city is reacting to the increasing number of infections.

After Biontech and Pfizer’s corona vaccine was fully approved in the United States, the City of New York announced that the vaccine would be mandatory for all school employees. Among other things, teachers and all other officials and people in contact with students should have received at least one dose by September 27, said Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday in New York. At first it remained open what would happen to those who nevertheless refuse to be vaccinated.

New York City sends a strong message: We will do everything we can to fight the Delta variant, to fight Covid,” said Mayor de Blasio, referring to the increasing number of infections. The full approval of the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine, which had recently been announced by the responsible US agency FDA, was a turning point in the fight against the pandemic. Previously, vaccination skeptics in many areas of public life had been given the option of avoiding vaccination through regular tests.

In New York, almost all Covid restrictions had fallen at the beginning of the summer in view of the advancing vaccination campaign – but the Delta variant recently heated up the spread again. The largest US city could now be followed by other cities in similar decisions.
