The Javit Center
New York Comic Con is happening on the island of Manhattanand more precisely Au Javits Center located at 429 11th Avenue (West Bank). To get there, nothing could be simpler. 34th Penn Station it is less than a 5-minute walk away and is regularly served by several subway lines. It is also possible to enjoy the city center for a morning stroll, the convention opens its doors to the public only from 10:00 (or 10:00).

When I walked into the Javits Center, I expected to see huge booths in the colors of Marvel and DC, as well as Netflix, House of the Dragon (Game of Thrones – HBO) and finally The Rings of Power (The Lord of the Rings – Amazon Prime Video). It’s still… it is the Japanese culture and more particularly the japanimation that appears as the essential of this 2022 edition. Chainsaw, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Demon Slayer, Naruto, My Hero Academia, etc. now they are the protagonists of the conference. Many panels are even dedicated to them, among the most prestigious and above all full of breakthroughs.
These franchises are ubiquitous both at the fair – they literally take up half of the exhibition space – and in the hearts of visitors. Crunchyroll has become a major player in pop culture in the United States, and feels physically during such an event. This highlights the rise of manga and anime in the North American market. Thousands of people are willing to wait, sometimes several hours, in hopes of seeing unedited images from their favorite series, attending a world premiere and / or meeting the dubbing actors and actresses who lend their voices to the characters. The “animated” conquest of the West is definitely underway.
Conferences and previews
If for some visitors New York Comic Con can be summed up in a series of compulsive purchases, for others the NYCC rhymes with “Panels & Screenings”. These lectures and screenings are an opportunity for the general public to see famous actors and actresses (Chloë Grace Moretz, James McAvoy, Norman Reedus) and internationally renowned artists (Todd McFarlane, Frank Miller) live and learn more about the upcoming movies, series and anime. The lucky ones can preview some of the most anticipated audiovisual projects through a trailer, exclusive short excerpts, a first episode and sometimes even a film in its entirety.
The 2022 edition was generous in this area. It all started on Thursday 6 October with the presentation of the Super Mario Bros. movie trailer with Jack Black. He lends his voice to the character of Bowser. Projections of the first episode of Chainsaw Man and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War on the Empire Stage were also milestones shared by a cheering crowd of fans. Also noteworthy are the Black Knight and the Man of Steel who made a splash on the main stage with the world premiere of the new film directed by Warner Bros. Animation. Anyway, Comic Con the perfect place to find THE rare pearland completes his collection of comics, stickers, t-shirts and so on. Dozens of exhibitors thus present their works and / or their products on hundreds of square meters. If you are of the “broken basket” type, remember to have it repaired (or replaced) before entering the Javits Center, otherwise you will spend your monthly wages before lunchtime. It must be said that some goodies are particularly eye-catching and have rarely matched finishes. I am thinking in particular of a series of Marvel and DC figures ranging from 750 to 1200 US dollars and with Wolverine, Spider-Man, Superman, Storm and finally the thunder god Thor.
The art of cosplay
Comic Con wouldn’t taste the same without cosplayers who put their heart into their work to embody their favorite fictional characters for a weekend. One thing is certain! The NYCC has nothing to envy to the Japan Expo on this point, quite the contrary. The handmade creations here are equal to, or even surpass, those of film industry professionals. Superheroes, comics, manga, cinema, etc. all genres, all styles, all passions are expressed in the most beautiful way during this conference thought of as the last mass of pop culture in North America.
The game scam
Unfortunately, the 2022 edition of New York Comic Con doesn’t shine with its gaming content. Except demo Dragon Ball: The Breakers et One piece odyssey already approached during the Japan Expo and / or the Tokyo Game Show, the opportunities to discover the next titles destined for the videogame market are not many. However, we must mention the various tournaments organized during the New York show. Between Multi-meeting, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Enhance et Guilty Equipment: Strive, fight fighting fans can express their talent in the arena. Finally, an area focused on board and card games welcomes professionals as well as those curious for a game of one of the many titles available. It is also possible to take introductory courses for some of them (Yu-Gi-Oh! For example).
