The New York Comic Con announced the cancellation due to the pandemic of its 2020 face-to-face edition, which normally takes place at the Javits Center in Manhattan, and has been replaced by an “online” version on YouTube from October 8 to 11 .
The ReedPop company, which produces major cultural events, has teamed up with YouTube to organize the New York comic festival, in which different panels will be broadcast live, something that was done last month at Comic Con in San Diego (California ).
Last year, more than 200,000 New York Comic Con tickets were sold, which normally takes place over 4 days and offers, in addition to conversations between producers, creators and directors, the opportunity for fans of the genre to meet them in person, and that they can purchase limited edition products of their favorite comics.
In recent years, ReedPop has expanded the convention, which has gone from occupying the nearly 80,000 square meters of the Javits to spread out to six more locations throughout New York, including Madison Square Garden.
The in-person convention is estimated to have raised about $ 100 million in New York in previous years, including hotel, transportation and meal costs for attendees – an inflow of money the Big Apple won’t see this time.
In the 2020 online version, Comic Con will offer panels with those responsible for Starz’s “American Gods”, as well as “Star Trek”, and another from Hulu and FX, in which they will reveal their planned programming.
In them, fans will be able to converse with each other and ask questions of the protagonists, and they will also have the possibility of obtaining personalized autographs and video workshops.
