New York City’s Rat Problem: Meet the Bloodthirsty Leader Fighting Back

New York City fails to win the war on the rats. The rat has become public enemy number one. There would be as many as inhabitants, i.e. about 9 million. The city therefore placed a classified ad to find a rat exterminator with a very special profile: “Looking for a bloodthirsty leader with a killer instinct”. The inhabitants have no other choice in the meantime, but to live with the rodents.

Sophie has lived in New York for ten years and she doesn’t get used to it. “I scream, it’s stronger than me. I really have a phobia of rats, so I scream,” she confides at the microphone of RTL. Yell or call a specialist like Ernie. His mission for the day is to hunt and kill the rats of a posh residence in Manhattan. For this, he retraces their journey. “These black traces are the passage of rats,” he explains.

New York has found its bloodthirsty leader

Ernie has the perfect profile for the rat killer wanted by the town hall: 13,000 euros per month, a nice sum, but his business is already doing very well. “I’m not interested in the job, but I’m willing to help out,” he says. In its fight, the town hall even organizes rat academies, free online courses, with simple advice such as not leaving food lying around and making rats feel that their life will not be easy.

The city is tidying up garbage collection, the time allowed to take out the trash will be changed from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., two hours less dinner for the rats. And so New York has found its bloodthirsty leader. This is Kathleen Corradi. Nicknamed the Rat Czarina, she is the new director of the rodent reduction program.
