NEW YORK – New York City’s largest public employees union, representing some 200,000 current and retired city workers, has called for Governor Cuomo’s resignation. This is one of the most recent political consequences following Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation that concluded that the governor sexually harassed 11 women.
“Safety and security should be the standard in every workplace. The details that were made public as part of Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation make it clear that this is not the case in the governor’s office, “said the executive director of the DC 37, Henry Garrido, in a statement.
“We cannot turn a blind eye to the harassment perpetuated by Governor Cuomo. It is evident that he is no longer in a position to serve. The governor must resign. If it does not do so, the Assembly must initiate the accusation process ”.
DC 37 is the largest public employees union in New York City, representing 150,000 members and 50,000 retirees.
The union joins a growing number of politicians and voters calling for the governor’s resignation, adding that if he does not voluntarily step aside, he must be indicted.
This latest development comes on the same day that the Westchester and Manhattan county district attorney’s offices announced who are initiating investigations into Cuomo’s alleged misconduct in their districts after the public report of the attorney general that was published on Tuesday and reported that the politician sexually harassed 11 women.
The attorney general’s report, which was first made publicly available Tuesday, found that the sexual harassment faced by nearly a dozen women violates state and federal laws. Demands for Cuomo’s resignation were swift and came from levels of government as high as the White House, where President Joe Biden said the governor should resign.
Governor Cuomo “sexually harassed current and former New York State employees by engaging in unwanted and non-consensual movements and by making numerous offensive comments of a sexually suggestive nature that created a hostile work environment for women,” stated the Tuesday the attorney general.
