New York City Train System Collapses; Governor “does not guarantee” prompt restoration – Telemundo 62

NEW YORK – MTA officials urge New York City residents to exercise caution after severe flooding was reported at several train stations.

“This flash flood emergency is destroying infrastructure throughout the region. Subways are no exception,” said Acting MTA President Janno Lieber.

“There are several areas where the water level has risen. It has made it impossible for the trains to move and the system is providing a very, very limited service. Therefore, we urge everyone not to use it,” he added.

All train service in New York City is currently suspended, the MTA said in a tweet.

“Torrential rains caused huge amounts of water to enter the subway and flood the roads, creating serious service disruptions. Our concern is for those who were trapped on trains after up to six inches of rain fell in a matter of hours. “Lieber detailed in a statement.

“New Yorkers should not attempt to travel until further notice. We will implement maximum pump capacity and increase workers in the system when it is safe so that as this epic storm subsides, service can be restored as soon as possible.” .

Lieber said it is too early to estimate whether the service will be able to return in full on Thursday morning, but Gov. Kathy Hochul was more forceful on the matter.

The president pointed out that “she cannot guarantee” that the system will return to normal operation by Thursday morning, and warned about the possibility of significant delays.
