New York City to close Central Park to traffic –

New York will close Central Park to traffic on June 27, as it did more than a century ago, the mayor of the largest city in the United States announced Friday.

The aim is to reduce air pollution and the number of car accidents. “There is going to be more tranquility and a sense of security than before,” Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters. The urban park is the most visited in the United States.

More than 42 million people visit Central Park each year, which spans more than 325 acres in the heart of New York City.

Very popular park

It includes a zoo and lakes for navigation. The northern part of the park had already been closed to traffic since 2015.

The measure will extend to the entire park, except for four cross lanes opened during the creation of the park to relieve traffic congestion.
