Just after 10:30 a.m. on December 12, the New York City Police Department received a 911 call about a shooting, and police rushed to the fourth floor of the Ocean Bay Apartments at 409 Beach 54th St. in Edgemere. apartment, where police received reports that two brothers had gotten into an argument.
New York City Police Chief Superintendent Jeffrey Maddrey said at a press conference that in the apartment, the police knocked on the bedroom door and the police talked to a man through the door.
“The door opened, our members walked inside and the man pointed a gun at them,” Madre said. “Our officer ordered him to drop the weapon and our officer fired his weapon.”
The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before noon from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. He has not yet been identified.
Madre said the gun the man had appeared to be a replica gun. Police do not believe the shooting indicated by the 911 call occurred before.
The shooting remains under investigation. Madre said police fired multiple shots, but the exact number was still under investigation.
