NEW YORK — New York City’s public outdoor pools open their doors to residents this Thursday, June 29 for summer enjoyment.
Here we explain what you should know about the opening of swimming pools:
Pool hours
Outdoor pool hours are 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm
The pools will remain open this summer for general swimming. Pool hours will remain the same: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, and 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
What you should know before going
what to wear
People must have a bathing suit to enter the pool area. Shirts with colors on them are not allowed on deck. Free sunscreen is provided at the pools.
What Brig
Make sure you have a sturdy lock when you head to the pool to keep valuables safe. Padlocks are required for entry and they do not accept luggage locks.
what not to bring
You will need to leave food, glass bottles, electronic devices, and newspapers at home. Loose periodicals tend to fly around and create litter, food can be tricky to clean up afterwards, and there’s too much water around to ensure your electronics stay safe. Just to be safe, we also recommend leaving valuables like jewelry and credit cards at home.
Information for parents
Are you thinking of taking floats? It is safer to leave them at home and stay in the shallow end of the pool until they all learn to swim.
Babies or young children can put on swim diapers before going in the water. They can find to leave the stroller, but there is no one to watch them.
