The landlord had a dispute with the tenant over non-payment of rent and eventually set fire to the house where the tenant lived. The shocking incident took place in New York City. 66-year-old Rafiqul Islam set fire to the house. A family of six children was in the house at the time of the fire. The New York City Fire Department itself revealed these things in a Facebook post.
The tenant had not paid the rent for several days. The police say that the owner of the house was very upset and this led him to set the house on fire. A case has been registered against Rafiqul for attempted murder. The family was staying on rent on the second floor. Rafiqul kept telling him to either pay the rent or vacate the house, but the tenant did not do any of this. He then set fire to the house from the staircase.
Six children and two adults were in the house at the time of the fire. Two children were placed in the hands of the neighbors standing below and the rest of the children were brought down by the fire brigade.
All the family members were inside the house when the fire started, but they all escaped alive.
According to the fire department, the homeowner threatened the family several times. The tenant and his family say he said he would cut off the gas and electricity and set the house on fire if the rent was not paid. At the end of the investigation, the video of the day of the fire was found as evidence. It shows Rafiqul, wearing a mask and hoodie, walking into the house he was renting just before the family’s first call to 911. They also got a picture of the mask and hoodie underneath.
Rafiqul has also filed a complaint against the family saying that they are not paying the rent. However, he has now been charged with attempted murder.
