The New York Rats may soon be facing a new foe.
If Mayor Eric Adams’ team gets their way, a “bloodthirsty” person who isn’t averse to “mass culling” should soon begin hunting down the unwanted rodents roaming the heart of the Big Apple.
Eric Adams’ office recently posted an ad for a new “Rodent Mitigation Manager” more commonly referred to as the “Rat Czar”.
Anyone taking on this New York fight against “the real enemy” could fetch a salary of between $120,000 and $170,000, depending on the ad placed.
“Do you have what it takes to do the impossible?” questions the ban before continuing: “a virulent vehemence for parasites? Training in urban planning, project management or administration? And above all, the drive, determination and killer instinct to fight the real enemy: New York’s relentless rat population? »
The job description describes the assignment as “24/7 work that requires stamina and organisation” and states that the ideal candidate possesses a “swashbuckling attitude, shrewd humor and a hardened character.
According to official data, the number of rats has increased dramatically across New York City in recent years, with a 71 percent increase since 2020.
“Despite their successful public engagement strategy and brazen social media presence, mice are not our friends, they are enemies that must be defeated by the combined forces of our municipality,” the announcement further states.
“The rats will hate this job offer. But 8.8 million New Yorkers and City Hall stand ready to work with you to reduce the rat population, improve sanitation and prevent the plague,” the City team finally pleads.
