New York City Hall and other civic buildings around the city were covered in blue and white lights Wednesday night to mark Israel’s Independence Day, which marks the 74th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish state.

“Today we celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day together,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement.

“As home to the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel, New York City stands with the State of Israel as it celebrates 74 years as a beacon of hope and peace. opportunity, and joins our collective aspiration for peace, security and the spread of democratic values ​​throughout the Middle East,” he added.

Israel’s Consul General in New York Asaf Zamir thanked Mayor Eric Adams “for this heartwarming gesture.”

“These lights demonstrate the undying strength of the bond between New York City and the State of Israel, which will continue to flourish under the mayor’s leadership,” he said.
