The New York City area has reported thousands of people without power causing flooding in different areaswhile a new storm is expected to hit the region over the weekend, when strong winds, rain and snow are likely to be expected.
NYC, Long Island and much of southeastern Connecticut recorded between two and three inches of rain, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed.

“The rains will be intermittent throughout the day, but in the afternoon they will slowly disappear. Especially the winds will also be dying down”Fox Forecast Center meteorologist Nikki Nolan told the New York Post.
A wind advisory will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with gusts that could reach up to 50 mph, according to Nolan, who added that temperatures are expected to drop as the storm leaves the region.
According to Poweroutage.us, The storm knocked out power, leaving thousands of people in the tri-state area without power at 8:00 a.m.
Nearly 2,000 customers without power in Long Island, Suffolk and Nassau
Meanwhile, on Long Island, both Suffolk and Nassau counties, there were about 1,800 customers without power, while in Westchester there were about 1,100 affected.
Con Edison, which had about 2,000 customers without power Wednesday morning, said it was activating hundreds of contract workers to quickly help those affected.
For its part, PSEG Long Island, which serves Long Island and the Rockaways, He stated that they had restored power to more than 12,700 customers since 4:00 pm on Tuesday.
Areas of Connecticut hit by storms
The storm also caused flooding in some areas, especially in Connecticut, where a flash flood warning was issued along the Yantic River due to a partial dam break.
The breakage left parts of Norwich under water, blocking several streets and causing Norwich Public Schools to close for the day.
At least 3,000 people in the area were without power Wednesday morning. A flood warning remained in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
New York, alert for second winter storm
A second winter storm, more intense than the previous one, is expected to hit New York state over the weekend, Nolan warned.
“This weekend, in fact, another big winter storm is coming. It looks like it won’t really arrive in our area until Saturday.”, noted the meteorologist. “It requires more rain, and definitely more winds as well.”
The next storm is expected to bring snow to parts of northern and western New York, although the city will likely only see flurries, rain and wind once again.
However, the weather is not expected to be as extreme as the storm currently leaving the region, Nolan clarifies.
“There will definitely be rain and winds again, but not as strong or as severe as yesterday.”Nolan said. “We hope the situation improves after Monday.”
