New York City E-Prix (Sunday): An overview of all Formula E penalties

Even at the Sunday race of the New York City E-Prix, the Formula E race stewards had to monitor compliance with the technical and sporting regulations. In the event of a violation of the rules, it was the job of Eric Barrabino, Steve Pence and Michael Schwägerl to determine the sentence. In this article you will find, as usual, a list of all decisions made by the race management during the second race of the New York City E-Prix 2021.

Penalties in the race

  • Tom Blomqvist received a drive-through penalty for drawing too much power from the battery. The sensors measured 210.94 kWh on the first lap of the race, a maximum of 200 kW was allowed.
  • Joel Eriksson Also received a drive-through penalty for recovering too much energy when braking when the battery was almost full. At a charge level of more than 85 percent, the maximum recuperation power is limited according to the “Battery Software Implementation Guide” from battery manufacturer McLaren Applied.
  • Oliver Rowland received a time penalty of 5 seconds for causing a collision with Joel Eriksson on hairpin turn 10. This penalty made no difference in the classification, as he was more than 13 seconds ahead of Rene Rast.
  • Lucas di Grassi received a 10-second time penalty as he was found guilty of a collision with Sebastien Buemi and Norman Nato. Di Grassi fell back from seventh to 14th place and remained without points.
