NEW YORK — A New York City councilwoman was arrested Friday for attending a protest with a weapon, police said.
The Republican councilwoman of the 48th district in Brooklyn, Inna Vernikov, was arrested this Friday morning after attending a pro-Palestinian demonstration with a gun the previous day.
The NYPD said she was on the Brooklyn College campus between noon and 3 pm on Thursday where she was seen observing the protest.
He filmed himself in front of the protesting crowd, calling them “pro-Hamas” and saying he was there to help “Jewish students feel safe.” Vernikov called Palestinian supporters “nothing less than terrorists without bombs.”

In photographs posted online through social media, Vernikov is seen with the gun strapped to his waist and “protruding from the front of his pants” during the demonstration at Brooklyn College. She soon notified the police and the NYPD contacted her after she left the protest.

According to the NYPD, police officers contacted Vernikov and told him to turn himself in. The councilwoman turned herself in this Friday morning and she was charged with criminal possession of a firearm.
Vernikov handed over his weapon and his permit to carry.
The councilwoman did not respond to NBC New York’s request for comment.
