video CBS New York showed that an MTA bus pulled up on a Staten Island street last night, “submerged in water up to the waist,” he said. According to the station, firefighters helped escort passengers and the driver to higher ground.
In New Jersey, about 200 people were rescued Wednesday evening by a train near Newark Liberty International Airport which was caught in heavy rains and flooding in that area.
The passengers had been stuck on a train near the airport for about three and a half hours before being rescued around 9:00 p.m., said Jim Smith, a spokesman for New Jersey Transit. No injuries were reported, he said.
Janno Lieber, acting chairman of the city’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said in a statement Wednesday that “massive amounts of water” from an “epic storm” have created “serious disruption”.
