The New Yorkers won 3-1 in the MLS playoffs
The Costa Rican Alonso Martínez and the Uruguayan Santiago Rodríguez scored this Saturday and New York City beat Cincinnati 3-1 to force the third and final game in this first round of the MLS ‘playoff’, which is played in the best of three games (1-1 now in the series).
Martínez has been one of the most outstanding Latinos in this MLS season and this Saturday he took charge of a New York City team that, after losing 1-0 against Cincinnati in the first duel, was forced to win in order not to leave vacation.

Rodríguez’s goal, another important reference for the New Yorkers, came in the 97th minute from a penalty and to seal the victory.
For his part, Cincinnati’s goal was scored in the second half by Argentine Luca Orellano.
As third in the East and with Argentine Luciano Acosta (MLS MVP in 2023) as a star, Cincinnati will have a home advantage against New York City (sixth) in the third game, which will be played next Saturday at TQL Stadium .

The winner of this tie will meet the winner of the series between the Columbus Crew of Colombian Juan Camilo ‘Cucho’ Hernández and the New York Red Bulls.
Reigning champions of the MLS Cup and the Leagues Cup, the Columbus Crew was second in the East only behind Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. But the Red Bulls (seventh) caused a surprise in the first match, winning 0-1 in Columbus and this Sunday they will have the option at home to seal their classification.
