New York chooses Ford Mustang Mach-E as its new police car

The New York City Police Department gets a new official car. The city ordered 184 copies of the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT. This means that the Mustang Mach-E’s share of the total fleet is still fairly small, but the NYPD wants to electrify the entire fleet in the long run.

The NYPD fleet currently has more than 6,200 light duty enforcement vehicles. The Mustang Mach-E GT will therefore form a small part of the fleet with the current order. It is a prelude to electrifying the entire fleet, said the director of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate and Sustainability. Carscoops.com know. “With today’s announcement, we are preparing our fleet of patrol cars for a green future, away from the polluting fuels of the past,” the roaring statement reads. There are still a lot of cars to go before that.

Moreover, it is not only the New York Police Department that gets the keys to the Mustangs. Other departments within the municipality, such as ‘Parks and Recreation’ and ‘Environmental Protection’, will also be driving the 487 hp Mustang Mach-E GT. In total, converted €10.1 million is involved in the order. The city is thus taking a step towards US President Joe Biden’s wish to eventually have the entire US government fleet consist of EVs.

New York is known to be the first city to place an order for a Mustang Mach-E. Not much is known about the final form of the police version of the Mach-E. The one in the photos is part of the ‘All-Electric Pilot Program’ previously announced, but it appears to be just a civilian Mach-E with some stickers. Ford is testing it with the Michigan police force. The British Police-coated Mustang Mach-E, which Ford’s UK arm came up with for the Emergency Services Show, may provide a better indication of what a Mustang Mach-E for the Hermandad might actually look like. The city of New York will receive the Mustangs on June 30, so we’ll know more then.
