New York celebrates 50 years of hip-hop, a movement that has its roots in a party organized in the Bronx at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue by DJ Kool Herc on August 11, 1973, and which subsequently conquered the planet.

Events are organized across New York City including the mega concert Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium on August 11, the official birth date of the musical movement. Among the headliners: Run-DMC, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Eve, Lil’ Kim… in short, beautiful people!

To follow in the footsteps of hip-hop in New York, you can also consult a section du site NYCgo which includes an interactive map of hip-hop experiences in the five boroughs, interviews and Q&As with local hip-hop enthusiasts, guides to hip-hop culture, history, shopping, restaurants, street art, things to do, and a list of commemorative events and cultural exhibits across New York City.
