New York. When they reopen in September, after a break of around one and a half years during the corona pandemic, the theaters on New York’s Broadway only want to allow spectators with a vaccination certificate. All employees and actors at the 41 theaters must also be vaccinated, the industry association Broadway League announced on Friday.
The only exceptions are for children under the age of twelve, for whom a vaccine has not yet been approved, and for people for whom medical reasons or religious beliefs prevent vaccination – they have to show a negative test.
Spectators must wear a mask
In addition, spectators in the theater would have to wear masks and should only take them off to eat and drink. The regulation will initially apply until at least October, the background is the renewed increase in infections in the USA due to the delta variant of the corona virus. From mid-September, many of the Broadway theaters that have been closed since March 2020 during the pandemic want to resume operations.
The Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall, among others, had previously announced that they would only allow fully vaccinated viewers at the beginning of the season, at least for the time being. These two venues even completely exclude children under the age of twelve as long as no vaccine has been approved for them.
