The coronavirus epidemic is wreaking havoc in New York State and New York City in particular. As of April 10, 2020, New York State has more than 161,000 cases of the coronavirus, more than any other country in the world. At the same time, Spain has in fact around 153,000 cases and Italy a total of nearly 147,000 cases. The death toll stands at nearly 7,000 for New York State.
New York City alone has 87,000 cases, more than any other city in the world and more than the official figures for China as a whole. The death toll in New York has reached 4,778, including 518 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The coronavirus would have come from the United Kingdom
Geneticists say today that the virus raging in New York arrived through the United Kingdom. While Donald Trump had banned passengers from continental Europe from traveling to the United States as of March 13, 2020, the US administration waited until March 16, 2020 to extend the ban to the United Kingdom. Anyway, too late measurements taking into account the incubation time.
The first case of coronavirus was actually identified on March 2, 2020 in Westchester County, north of the Bronx, before spreading at lightning speed.
The epidemic would have reached its peak in New York
A glimmer of hope all the same: the governor of the State of New York, Andrew Cuomo, revealed that the number of new patients hospitalized because of the coronavirus had reached its low Thursday, April 9, 2020. A slowdown which would leave to think the epidemic has peaked in New York.
However, there is no question of releasing the pressure, quite the contrary. The governor called on the population to respect social distancing. Containment measures have also been extended until April 29, 2020 in New York State.
