New York will be the first state in the United States to temporarily ban certain cryptocurrency mining operations that use electricity from fossil fuels, a measure driven by the high energy consumption of this process and the consequent environmental impact. The governor, Democrat Kathy Hochul, yesterday signed the measure that was approved last June by the state legislature.
