WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Organizers of the New York Auto Show on Wednesday announced the cancellation of the event, which was due to start on August 19 and traditionally attracts thousands of visitors and journalists from around the world, citing the rise coronavirus contaminations caused by the Delta variant.
While it was initially due to reopen its doors last April after the health crisis, the Auto Show was presented in June by New York representatives as a sign of the progress made in the face of the coronavirus epidemic, in particular thanks to to the vaccination campaign.
In a statement, the organizers of the Show, which was to last ten days, said they had taken this decision following the resurgence of coronavirus infections and the measures recently announced by local authorities.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this week the creation of a mandatory health pass, attesting to vaccination against COVID-19, for employees and employees of restaurants, gyms and other closed places of entertainment.
