Current CEO Dan Weiss had previously announced that he would step down from his post next year. Hollein was appointed director of the Metropolitan Museum in 2018. Previously, he had managed the Fine Arts Museums in San Francisco as well as the Schirn Kunsthalle, the Städel Museum and the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt am Main.
