New York Attorney General’s Office issues alert about false vaccination cards – Telemundo New York (47)

New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a consumer alert about false vaccination cards circulating in the state.

The alert details how the sale and distribution of blank vaccination cards or with false records represents a serious threat in the fight against the pandemic.

The falsification of vaccination cards, as well as the unauthorized use of the stamps of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), violate federal laws. and from New York. Failure to comply with these laws is subject to civil and criminal enforcement.

The FBI notes that a fake vaccination card is considered a misuse of a government seal. That carries a fine of $ 5,000 or five years in prison.

“I strongly urge New Yorkers to reject these fake vaccination cards and get the COVID-19 vaccine, so that we can get out of this pandemic and get back to normal as soon as possible,” said James.

People are also discouraged from sharing photos of their vaccination card on social media, or at least blurring private information. Scammers can use that information for identity theft.

The alert reminds New Yorkers to access the Excelsior Pass app to access proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test results.

Any New Yorker who believes they have been the victim of a vaccination card scam should contact the Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-771-7755 or filing a complaint online.
