New York artist thanks garbage disposal in Corona crisis

New York. With a message spread throughout the metropolis, a New York artist thanked the garbage disposal staff during the corona pandemic. “Dear Service Worker,” Thank you for keeping NYC alive! ” For … forever ”(in German something like: Dear service employee. Thank you for keeping New York alive. For … forever), has recently appeared on the facade of the Queens Museum. The message also appears Screens in Times Square in Manhattan and on the subway.

According to the museum, thanks from artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles goes to all public employees in the city, but especially to those of the garbage collection. The 80-year-old has been employed there as an “artist-in-residence” for decades. She became known in the late 1970s with an action for which she shook hands with each of the approximately 8,500 employees of the New York garbage disposal and said: “Thank you for keeping New York City alive!”
