New York, Jan 20 (EFE) .- A New York subway station woke up this Wednesday with a change of image: passengers no longer arrive at “46th street” in Queens but at “46th Joe”, in reference to the new political era of the newly inaugurated US President Joe Biden, the country’s 46th president.
Local artist Adrian Wilson changed the words on the sign that welcomes travelers and also took advantage of other signs to develop his creativity, writing “45th out” where it used to be “45th street” and “MR Biden” where the letters M were. and R representing the subway lines, according to the Patch newspaper.
Wilson’s artistic intervention reached Manhattan, where the sign that gives name to Thompson Street was modified so that it can read “Trump gone St”, in a celebratory farewell to former President Donald Trump: the street of retired Trump.
It is not the first time that New Yorkers display their ingenuity in the iconic subway system of the city to launch political messages or tributes, and precisely the 46th street station in Queens had already appeared decked out in honor of Biden.
The most recent transformation was in early 2019, when Bryant Park station signs were used to honor NBA star Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash with his young daughter and other travelers.
A year earlier, the signs for the Franklin stop in Brooklyn had been painted with the name “Aretha” on the front, in memory of the queen of “soul.” EFE
