There will be a corona vaccination obligation for all employees of companies in New York City. Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this on Monday in the American talk show Morning Joe. The vaccination obligation will come into effect on December 27 and is intended to prevent an infection peak in the cold months, in which the corona virus spreads more easily. Corona vaccinations are already mandatory for national and local government employees and for health care workers who work on behalf of the government.
“New York has opted for a preemptive strike,” De Blasio said in a statement Morning Joe. “We really want to do something daring to fight corona.” Last week, New York announced a vaccination requirement for employees of private and religious schools. Anyone who wants to eat in a restaurant, go to the gym, or go to a nightlife must also be fully vaccinated in New York.
De Blasio goes further than US President Joe Biden with his new vaccination obligation. Biden wants to introduce a vaccination requirement for companies with more than 100 employees. It should come into effect on January 4. However, federal courts have temporarily blocked its implementation. De Blasio expects the new vaccination requirement in New York City “will survive all legal challenges.”
