New York: Anna Netrebko is replaced by Ukrainian soprano

The 50-year-old has also withdrawn her participation in the “Turandot” production of the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden in June and July. Netrebko had previously been asked to distance himself from the actions of the Russian government in Ukraine, which violate international law, according to the opera house.

“We appreciate Anna Netrebko as an outstanding singer and we have a long-standing artistic partnership. At the same time, given the brutal war, we see no possibility of continuing this cooperation,” said the Berlin State Opera.

The evening of the duo Netrebko/Eyvazov scheduled for July 2nd in the Wiener Konzerthaus is still going ahead.

Netrebko herself had canceled her upcoming performances this week. “It’s not the right time for me to perform and make music. After careful consideration, I made the extremely difficult decision to withdraw from concert life until further notice,” the star soprano announced on Tuesday via the organizer River Concerts. However, this was not intended to be understood per se as a statement for the coming months.
