Police forces in both cities are jointly looking for someone who allegedly shot three homeless people in Washington and two homeless men in New York. Two of the five victims, one in each city, have died.
Stab and gunshot wounds
The three shootings in Washington took place between March 3 and 9, the one in New York last Saturday, March 12. The first two attacks, in the early morning of March 3 and March 8, were not yet fatal. The victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
That was not the case with a man who was found dead on March 9 in Washington with multiple stab and gunshot wounds.

Help New Yorkers Need
In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams told reporters that an attacker had attacked two homeless men sleeping on the street in Manhattan at different times Saturday. He opened fire on them. One of the two victims died on the spot, the other was taken to hospital.
Adams called the shootings “horrific.” “Two people were shot while sleeping in the street – they didn’t commit a crime, they just slept in the street,” he said at a news conference. “We need to find the person who did this, and we need the help of New Yorkers to do that.”

Police believe the killings in New York and Washington are related due to similarities in the nature of the attacks and the living conditions of the victims. The evidence that has now been collected also points in that direction.
