The U.S. State of New York further restricts the entry of passengers on flights departing the UK from the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) strain.
US media such as the Associated Press reported on the 21st (local time) that British Airways had agreed with New York State that only passengers who had been tested negative for Corona 19 in advance would board a flight to New York.
In March, the United States banned non-American passengers from entering the UK, Ireland and 26 European countries.
Accordingly, the New York State action is interpreted to mean that even if an American has stayed in the UK, he will be allowed to enter the United States after receiving a negative corona 19 test.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today’s agreement with British Airways that he has also requested voluntary inspection of passengers departing from the UK with Delta and Virgin Airlines.
Governor Cuomo warned that “if airlines refuse, another action will be taken at the state level.”
New York State shares the supervision of JFK International Airport with the federal government. For this reason, it is interpreted that Governor Cuomo’s warning includes strong measures such as a ban on entry.
Earlier, Governor Cuomo urged the federal government to enforce full entry restrictions on flights departing from the UK.
In a statement the previous day, he said in a statement that European countries such as France had completely banned entry from Britain, and emphasized that “the US government should also take action quickly.”
He warned that six planes from the UK arrive in New York every day, warning that the worst could happen even if only one passenger was infected with the COVID-19 variant.
