New York Airport Terminal 8 goes into operation

American Airlines, British Airways and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey held a press conference at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to unveil renovations to the airport’s Terminal 8.

As part of a joint investment of US$400 million, two key members of the oneworld Alliance have unveiled a new check-in area, new gates and three new lounges belonging to Terminal 8. The terminal is expected to be recently renovated and receives approximately 10 million passengers a year.

This renovation includes five new widebody aircraft doors, four new widebody parking spaces, and an improved and more extensive baggage handling system. One hundred thirty thousand square feet of space has been added to the terminal.

“This expansion of Terminal 8, providing excellent hourly services between New York and London, is an example of things to come, where our vision of a world-class airport for the 21st century is now unfolding from one end of the airport to the other More. Thanks to the investment made by American Airlines and British Airways, Terminal 8, with five new widebody gates, offers an improved passenger experience and increased capacity for transatlantic travel to and from New York. This investment by our private partners in Terminal 8 is a vote of confidence in the future of the airport and the region.” – Rick Cotton, Executive Director, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

American Airlines and British Airways will move their operations to the new Terminal 8 on 1 December 2022. Spanish partner Iberia will also join them that day. Japan Airlines is expected to move to Terminal 8 in May 2023 and expects eight oneworld airlines to operate from the new terminal in the future.
