This measure, which de Blasio announced as a first in the country, will be gradually applied over the coming weeks and will be mandatory in all enclosed spaces open to the public from September 13.
To implement this initiative, the city is creating the “Key to NYC Pass” which will establish proof of covid vaccination for employees and customers of gyms, restaurants and entertainment venues, the mayor said.
New York State has recorded more than 2.15 million covid-19 patients since the start of the pandemic and more than 53,000 deaths. For the past fortnight, the city has recorded a 135% increase in the number of cases and apprehends a new epidemic wave due to the implantation of the delta variant.
