New York achieves herd immunity and lifts all measures

The British government only wants to postpone the end of all corona measures again in exceptional cases. “There should be an unprecedented and remarkable change in the development of the disease,” said Minister of State Michael Gove on Tuesday the Sky News broadcaster.

The previous evening, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the planned lifting of all restrictions on June 21 because of the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant would be postponed by four weeks until July 19.

“It is unfortunate that we have to take this break,” said Gove. “But we want to make sure that we don’t have to take anything back if we take this step.” It would be fatal for companies and society if freedoms had to be deleted again.

The government wants to use the coming weeks to accelerate the vaccination program. All over 40-year-olds should receive their second dose, which is necessary for full protection, at the latest in the week starting July 19, and all over 18-year-olds their first. 23- and 24-year-olds have been able to register for a vaccination since Tuesday.

Scientists have welcomed the shift. Many conservative politicians from Johnson’s ruling party, on the other hand, grumble and insist that July 19th really has to be the “day of freedom”.
