“When oil companies present their products with words like ‘greener’ or ‘cleaner’, while failing to disclose the real effects of these products, it undermines the ability of consumers to make informed decisions,” said Lorelei Salas, of the City’s Consumer and Worker Protection Department.
This is not the first time that New York has taken on the oil industry giants.
The town hall lodged a complaint in January 2018 against BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Shell for their responsibilities in climate change, a complaint dismissed on appeal in early April.
