New York: 15,000 cameras with face recognition

(dpa) According to the human rights organization Amnesty International, the New York police use more than 15,000 cameras with face recognition. “This extensive network of cameras can be used by the police for invasive face recognition and runs the risk of turning New York into an Orwellian surveillance city,” Amnesty expert Matt Mahmoudi was quoted in a statement on Thursday.
