New Years Time – These are the winners:

– There will be very different weather in our country this New Year’s Eve, state meteorologist Terje Alsvik Walløe concluded in Dagbladet on Saturday morning.

It’s New Year’s Eve and the stage is set for New Year’s celebrations across the country.

Forecasts by meteorologists are now as certain as possible.

Alsvik Walløe therefore has a good basis for choosing the winner of the best New Year’s weather of the year:

– The best weather comes to eastern and southern Norway, he told Dagbladet on Saturday morning.

Conditions are therefore suitable for viewing the fireworks tonight, if you live in these parts of the country.

– In Eastern Norway it will be a quiet and pleasant New Year’s Eve. It has already cleared up and the sun has arrived in several places, and tonight will be starry; few clouds and good visibility, says Walløe.

In Sørlandet, clouds and persistent weather will alternate. However, the cloud cover will be so high that it won’t affect visibility, according to the state meteorologist.

– There will be good conditions to see the fireworks in southern Norway as well.

– Colder and colder

When Dagbladet speaks to Alsvik Walløe, i.e. in the morning, it is mild in both parts of the country. It will change throughout the day.

– By midnight, the temperature will likely drop to slightly below freezing in most places. So it’s probably going to be colder than it is right now.

Western Norway has been experiencing strong winds and rain for the past 24 hours. On the Bømlabrua in Stord in Vestland, the wind overturned a lorry trailer and the bridge was closed.

Also in the morning hours of Saturday, West Police reported that scaffolding and trampolines were blown away by the wind.

But relax; this will improve during the day in western Norway south of Stad, according to the Meteorological Institute.

– “It will resolve itself” before the New Year’s bells ring, reassures Alsvik Walløe.

– Great timing

Rogaland will have warm weather throughout New Year’s Eve.

Further north in Western Norway, such as Bergen, there may be some showers early in the evening.

– But it seems that they will disappear before midnight, then there will be only a breeze and much calmer weather. So there’s going to be a big difference between now and tonight — great timing.

Also, temperatures will drop in Western Norway. As midnight approaches, the degrees will approach freezing in cities like Bergen and Stavanger, according to forecasts by the meteorologist.

– Can get slippery in cold weather on small roads around. Those who will be driving at night need to be aware of this, she says.

It can explode in a storm

Alsvik Walløe has no good news for Møre, Romsdal and Trøndelag.

Precipitation here will fall in the form of sleet and snow, combined with wind against a gale along the Trøndelag coast. In Møre and Romsdal the wind strength will calm down slightly around midnight.

Trondheim will be a little more sheltered.

– Some showers in the form of sleet and snow are expected, especially in the evening. We are not talking about a lot of precipitation, but a fresh wind and around zero.

Most of the precipitation will likely occur in Nordland. It will fall mostly as snow in inland areas, but as sleet on the coast.

It can also blow up to a light to severe gale.

– It will feel good in the coastal strips and in the mountains. If you are crossing mountain passes, you should be careful of the snow cover on Saltfjellet, says Alsvik Walløe.

Snowflake occurs when it is snowing and blowing hard at the same time. Snow is blown by the wind and creates visibility challenges.

– It will decrease

Troms and Finnmark also have some wind.

It has been very windy in this part of the country recently – according to the meteorologist, it will continue well past New Year’s.

– There have been some discussions about launching fireworks in Tromsø in combination with strong winds. Now it seems that the wind will decrease a bit around Tromsø in the evening, but there could still be gusts from the southeast.

Temperatures here will be around freezing, combined with sleet or snow in the late evening and midnight.

Around midnight, however, the wind will be stronger in Nord-Troms and in Finnmark, here it can blow up to a storm.

Snow will be safer in the inner parts of Finnmark.

Hammerfest and towns in North Finnmark are likely to experience persistent weather, in combination with cold winds.
