In several places in the country, the police had a busy night as people celebrated the entry of 2023. Arguments and drunkenness caused nausea, and firefighters had to deal with small fires in several places in the country.
– Still a lot of rioting and brawling in central Oslo. We are now out of a number of nightclubs with such assignments. Mostly on short trips, although a trip to the emergency room is necessary for some, wrote Oslo police on Twitter after 3am.

Fireworks in the subway
Sporveien in Oslo closed both Furuset and Ellingsrudåsen metro stations on Saturday evening after fireworks were set off inside the stations.
The stations will remain closed until the first departure on Sunday morning, informs Sporveien on Sunday night.
– The fireworks were lit inside the vestibule of Ellingsrud station, where you take the elevator down, Oslo operations manager Tor Gulbrandsen told NTB.
No one was injured in the crash, as far as police know.
At 11pm Furuset station was also closed. Early on New Year’s Eve, both Lindeberg and Trosterud stations were closed after fire alarms went off.
After midnight, the police say they were present in the Haugerud area, which is also along line 2 of the metro.
– There was unreasonable use of fireworks by shooting at people and buildings. Shots were also fired at police and vehicles, with no one or anything injured, Gulbrandsen said.
Oslo police also arrested a man who had carried a gun with him into a pub on Hegdehaugsveien.
– A year with a lot of drama
– We were notified by the concierge, who had received information from a guest that there was a man with a weapon in the venue. A civilian patrol at the scene tracked down the man, found a weapon and arrested him without drama just before 1 a.m., Gulbrandsen told NTB.
Ear biting
In Ålesund, a man was taken to hospital after a violent accident.
– The police are on the scene after there has been an episode of violence between two foreigners. A man is taken to hospital with head and chest injuries. A man has been arrested on suspicion of violence. We will investigate the case further, writes the Møre og Romsdal police on Twitter.
In Stavanger, a 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged after a violent incident in Byterminalen at 2am.
– Police have control over a person after he sits on top of another and hits them. The incident occurred in Byterminalen, the Sør-Vest police district said on Twitter.
They claim the victim was taken to the emergency room, while a 16-year-old boy was reported and arrested.
A 20-year-old man was arrested in Haugesund on suspicion of biting off the ear of another 20-year-old, reports the same police district.
– The incident allegedly took place inside a nightclub in the city center this evening. The victim was sent to hospital from the emergency room, police wrote on Twitter.
5,000 revelers
South West Police also report several other drunken riots in Stavanger.
– Police patrols otherwise reported that at least 5,000 people attended the New Year celebration in Vålandstårnet. A quantity of fireworks seized. No serious accidents. Generally good atmosphere, writes the police on Twitter.
They also allege that a 17-year-old boy has been reported for lighting fireworks inside the no-go zone in Våland.
Police also say a man in Stord was admitted to Haukeland hospital with eye injuries after a fireworks accident.
– A 30-year-old man was sent to Haukeland hospital with eye injuries after an accident while launching fireworks. Police went to the scene of the accident and opened an investigative file, the South West Police Department said on Twitter.
– I do not do it
In Hemsedal, police have asked people not to light fireworks in view of a major rescue operation after a missing skier. The skier, a 58-year-old man, was found dead last night.
Agder police report minor incidents of violence in Kristiansand and Arendal with no one seriously injured.
– Shoot people
Fireworks were also shot through a window of a residential building in Odderhei, Kristiansand.
– Report of fireworks that were shot through a window at a private address in Odderhei. No one is injured, but there is damage to the window, Agder police wrote on Twitter at 11.13pm on New Year’s Eve.
In Larvik, a police patrol discovered a boy shooting fireworks at people.
– Patrol observed a teenage boy shooting fireworks at people in the downtown area. He is denounced and expelled from the area. The parents have been notified, writes the Sør-Öst police district on Twitter.
