NEW YORK – Still trying to start planning your New Year’s Eve parties? Don’t forget your raincoat and umbrella for this end of the year.
The frigid temperatures have held since Dec. 23, but the New York area finally started to warm up on Tuesday. It was the first time temperatures had passed the freezing point since Friday, when highs hit 30 degrees.
It will just heat up steadily throughout the week. Wednesday brings partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 40s, and even hotter, sunny conditions for Thursday and Friday.
While the trend continues on Saturday into New Year’s Eve, as highs could well exceed 50 degrees, which is unusual for the season, the streak of good weather is sadly coming to an end. Anyone who wants to be in Times Square to watch the ball drop should be prepared with a raincoat or umbrella, as rain is expected for much of the celebration.
More showers are expected on Sunday, so it looks like 2023 will start on a damp note. But again, temperatures will likely be in the 50s, so at least the freezing will be gone.
Monday looks like next week’s winner, as it may be the only day without rain. Showers may be possible for the rest of the week as many return to work and school.
