New Year’s Eve: the countdown has begun in Québec restaurants

Restaurateurs are ready to welcome customers for the new year, after two difficult years of the pandemic.

“Finally!” whispers Alexandre Cossette, marketing director of Gray Collection, “as much as our teams who are happy to find customers, as much as we see consumers who have returned”.

Around this time last year, restaurants were forced to close their doors due to a curfew.

Alain Creton, owner of Alexandre, is still grappling with this decision.

It’s “much better than last year when they wildly shut us down at 5pm, it was scary,” she says.

December 31st is an important day.

“We’re truly in the top 5 of our biggest parties of the year,” says Restaurant Lloyd’s Benjamin David, despite last-minute cancellations.

“People want to celebrate […] Typically, when choosing a restaurant on December 31st, you want to be sure of your chances!” remarks Mr. Creton.

With the celebrations at Montreal’s Old Port cancelled, some restaurateurs have decided to take over.

By 2023, restaurateurs want to end labor shortages and phantom bookings.
