Many people have already stocked up on rockets and firecrackers in recent days to make it explode at the turn of the year. The pandemic this time is not nullifying the calculation. However, there are still some things to consider.

At the end of the year, people in Baden-Württemberg can look forward to an almost spring-like day and a New Year’s Eve like before: After two years without firecrackers and fireworks due to the corona pandemic, many people want to celebrate the turn of the year 2022 /2023 extensively and in the usual manner. Even the country’s already crowded hospitals could be hurt because fireworks don’t light up as they should or because they’re handled incorrectly.

In Baden-Württemberg, fireworks can generally only be used on December 31st and January 1st. In some municipalities there are stricter time restrictions or local no-go zones, for example to protect old half-timbered houses from fires. In addition, the setting off of firecrackers and the firing of rockets in retirement homes, hospitals and churches for children and the elderly is prohibited for noise protection reasons.

You are also warned to be respectful of hearing animals – for them, noise is pure stress. The debate over sparkling fireworks is also linked to the issues of fine particles and environmental pollution, as well as the mountains of garbage they leave behind.

However, many people do not want the festivities to take place after the break due to the coronavirus. In central Stuttgart, for example, a large party is planned on Schlossplatz, which can be attended by up to 20,000 people.

Later in the day, spring fever could even break out in some: the German weather service has predicted record temperatures for New Year’s Eve. Mild temperatures of 14 degrees are expected in Upper Swabia and up to 22 degrees in the foothills of the Black Forest. However, there is also a strong wind.
