Around 70 vehicles were burned and around thirty people were arrested on the night of Sunday December 31 to Monday January 1, we learned. France Blue Alsace, according to a count from the prefecture at 6 a.m. Monday. New Year’s Eve was calmer than last year in Alsace.
2,500 police officers and gendarmes were mobilized in Bas-Rhin, including more than 700 in Strasbourg alone. In this department, around sixty cars burned. It is “the most controlled results since 2019, welcomes the prefecture. Particularly in the city of Strasbourg, which is experiencing a drop of a third in vehicles burned compared to 2022.
According to France Bleu Alsace, 28 people were taken into police custody, including 14 minors. A curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. prohibited minors not accompanied by an adult from going out. Furthermore, in Haut-Rhin, nine cars were burned and three people were arrested compared to 12 last year.
Nine police officers lightly injured
Mortar fire was nevertheless launched against the police, notably in Schiltigheim, a town in the northern suburbs of Strasbourg, and Koenigshoffen, a district to the west of Strasbourg. Nine police officers were slightly injured, some were targeted with a pellet gun.
The two hand hospital departments in Strasbourg received six patients for burns and wounds caused by firecrackers but no serious injuries. Among them was a 2-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy who was airlifted from Colmar. A woman also had to be operated on, specifies France Bleu Alsace.
