New Year’s Eve at gas stations. Prices on a “similar level”

From 1 January 2023, fuels are once again subject to the ordinary VAT rate. No increases are in sight. Given recent events on the wholesale market, it’s no wonder.

– We are waiting for the 95 petrol – The station employee answers me when I ask the price of the fuel at the till. On Sunday morning, the station pylon showed no value. Nothing unusual. Even on the last day of the year, at this point, there were queues and even the drivers refueled in the cans. A similar situation occurs at the local supermarket station.

Just a few days ago, the president of Orlen, Daniel Obajtek, reassured the pilots on TVP Info. – VAT declaration as decided European Commission it shouldn’t have a significant impact for fuel at our stations. We will do everything to ensure that these fuels are at a similar level and we will keep our word – she said. One might have thought that Orlen, who supplied fuel to Poland, had the math of him.

The price drop was commented on by Rafał Mundry, an economist. “Miracles on Orlen. Today, wholesale 95, 98 and diesel prices on Orlen became 12% cheaper overnight. And the zloty and oil remain the same», the analyst pointed out. «Tomorrow the VAT on fuels will increase from 8 percent. at 23 percent. And if they lower the VAT today and add the VAT tomorrow, it will be the same. Did the drivers overpay PLN 700 per ton? (original spelling – ed) asked the expert.

However, e-petrol analysts are a little less optimistic. Their forecasts indicate increases that will be felt a lot, especially in the case of Diesel fuel. Average prices announced for January 1-8, 2022 are in the range 7.84 PLN – 7.99 PLN per litre, while the last reading was PLN 7.66. It will also get more expensive petrol 95 – from PLN 6.53 per liter to PLN 6.68 – PLN 6.83.
