An eleven-year-old boy was seriously injured in a fireworks accident in Gouda on New Year’s Day. The boy has lost his hand, local residents report Broadcasting West. In the municipality of Breda, a fifteen-year-old boy lost part of his hand in a fireworks accident on Tuesday.
The accident happened on Monday around 3 p.m. in a park on Gansstraat, where four boys ran away after a loud fireworks explosion. One of them appeared to be seriously injured and was rushed to hospital.
The boy underwent surgery, but his hand cannot be saved, local residents say Broadcasting West.
The police are still investigating the incident, but have announced that they are assuming a fatal accident. The police cannot make any statements about the exact injuries to the victim.
Around the turn of the year, several fireworks accidents resulted in casualties. A 19-year-old man died in Haarlem on New Year’s Eve. A 36-year-old man died on Saturday in Neeritter, Limburg.
Boy in Teteringen lit found fireworks
A teenager also suffered serious injuries to his hand in Teteringen, in the municipality of Breda. A fifteen-year-old boy found a cobra and lit it. The heavy fireworks exploded immediately, causing the boy to lose part of his hand. Another boy was slightly injured.
The police warn to be careful with found fireworks that have not exploded. “Throw old fireworks in a bucket of water for a few hours and then with the residual waste,” is the advice.
